Ernesto Cicino arrived on a visit to Mariglianella having left for Canada on 27 May 1969 with destination Sault Sainte Marie, province of Ontario, Algoma region, bordering the American state of Michigan, and having Quebec to the east in the vast Canadian territory with the rooted Francophone culture, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpENWGUX8vk [Web source Lvfree Adventures].
From Italy the young migrant Ernesto brought as a professional gift the years spent in Mariglianella at the barber shop of his maternal uncle, Antonio Di Maio, Mast’Antonio in Via Materdomini, and established himself in Canada with the activity of an innovative barber shop in Sault Saint Marie where he made himself known and appreciated and where he put down roots for his permanent residence and laid the foundations of his beautiful Italian-Canadian family. At 27 years old, the young Mariglianellese Ernesto Cicino married Caterina Coccimiglio, 22 years old, an English teacher, from a family originally from Acquafredda in Calabria, and together they gave birth to four children: Luigi, Angela, Giovanna and Marco. These children of theirs, well grown and all well-established professionals, have made their grandparents Ernesto and Caterina happy over the years, with their dear grandchildren: Annabella, Chariotte, Nicholas, Luca and Ernesto Noah.
Canada, a vast territory bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the east, the Pacific Ocean and Alaska to the west, the Arctic Ocean to the north and the United States of America to the south, covers an area of ??almost 10 million km². approximately 40 million inhabitants including 1 and a half million Italians and their descendants. The latter who settled in that “placid, quiet and extensive land” as testified by Ernesto, a Canadian citizen since 1985, also include the descendants of some families from Mariglianella who emigrated in the first half of the twentieth century of the last millennium: Calcafuoco Ciro, Giovanni, Giuseppe and Anella; Aunt Assunta Cicino and Gennarino; Pulente Giovanni whose sons, Tony, Gino, Jimmy, Armando and Victor had a certain notoriety as a musical group in the decade 1960-1970. Canada concretely recognizes multiculturalism, as announced on 8 October 1971 by the Prime Minister, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, and approved in Parliament in 1988, making this country the first in the world to enshrine its multicultural policy in its legislation, https://laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/C-18.7/page-1.html.
In the month of June each year, Italian Heritage Month is celebrated in honor and recognition of the contribution made to this country by Italian immigrants and Italian-Canadians. Ernesto arrived in Mariglianella, where he was born on 12 December 1949, met his lifelong friends, Enrico Di Crescienzo, Gennaro Iorio, Sebastiano Vaia, greeted Gaetano Giordano who lives in the Marche and spent some nice moments coinciding with the traditional festival of San Giovanni Evangelista, Patron Saint of Mariglianella, opened on 15 September 2024, https://www.joyfreepress.com/2024/09/15/432502-mariglianella-festeggia-s-giovanni-evangelista-antonio-castaldo/
For a few days Ernesto missed the occasion of the Gigli’s Dance Festival of Brusciano in Honour of Sant’Antonio of Padua, https://www.joyfreepress.com/2024/08/29/431124-brusciano-terminata-antoniana-149-festa- dei-gigli-antonio-castaldo/, but nevertheless received a reminder in this regard from his cousin, the sociologist Antonio Castaldo, during a special family moment, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwUHNTYSeFc. On 22 September 2024 Ernesto Cicino met, together with his sister Angelina, who lives in Casamarciano, the rest of the family members in Italy distributed between Mariglianella, Brusciano, Castello di Cisterna and Marigliano in South Italy and it is here that they found themselves at the house of their cousin, daughter of Uncle Simone and Aunt Ersilia Pellegrino, Gelsomina Di Maio married to Sebastiano Di Maio; his cousin, daughter of Uncle Antonio, Angelina Di Maio, married to Lello La Cava; cousin Maria Di Maio, daughter of Uncle Carmine; the cousins, Anna, Carmela married to Luigi Livorno, Giuseppe and Antonio Castaldo, children of Ciro and Zia Sisina, Rosa Di Maio and niece Marianna Di Falco married to Antonio De Falco, all gathered also representing cousins ??and nephews engaged between Bologna and Udine in North Italy.
All together on 22 September 2024 they remembered the family members who are no longer with them but always present in their hearts and dear memories and then recounted their life experiences, refreshing the memory of an ancient shared past and confiding in the different and distant present but in an indelible glue that is family, love and the values ??that their unforgettable ancestors have left as a legacy, as summarized in the words, signed by all, of Gelsomina Di Maio, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMIM6I6BkII.
