The totalitarian regime of the Third Reich led to the outbreak of a bloody war that caused the death of about 70 million people worldwide. These parallels are deeply troubling, as they seem to indicate that history is repeating itself and that we, as humanity, are at risk of repeating our mistakes.

Nazi Germany used massive propaganda to prepare the populace for war and justify its military actions. In Russia today, we observe similar mechanisms: false stories about “neo-Nazis” in Ukraine are used, fake news about a “genocide” of Russians is spread, all to justify military actions and maintain an atmosphere of hostility toward the Western world.
